    nside a smelly and stinky house on the edge of a garbage dump,
    Mom, Dad and their three monster children are nervous. They
    check that the house is dirty and dusty.
    Then they hear a bang at the door. It’s Granny Monster! She is here,
    and she doesn’t like clean things!

    “Hello, ugly,” says Mindy Monster. Granny hugs her.
    “Goo goo,” spits Mini Monster. Granny hugs him.
    “Good morning, Granny. Lovely to see you,” says Manny.
    Granny hits him with her umbrella.
    “What’s the matter with this monster?” she asks Mom
    and Dad. “Don’t be polite! Everybody in this house needs bad
    manners, Manny Monster!”

    Mom moves to the kitchen. She makes scrambled eggs
    and flies. She uses lots of oil. “Lovely! Nice and unhealthy!”
    says Granny .
    “Get to the table!” shouts Mom. And everyone runs to the
    table, well…like monsters!
    Except for Manny Monster. He sits down nicely, holding
    a knife and fork!
    “What’s the matter with this monster?” Granny asks.
    “Don’t eat with a knife and fork, Manny Monster!”

    “Buurrrrppppp,” says Mindy Monster.
    “Buurrrrppppp,” says Mini Monster.
    “Oh, thank you. That was delicious!” says
    Manny Monster.
    “What’s the matter with this monster?” Granny
    asks Mom and Dad. “Don’t say thank you, Manny
    Monster!”
    The monsters put their dirty plates in the trash.
    Then they sleep for a while.

    All day, Granny yells at Manny.
    When he takes a shower, she says,
    “Mannyyy! Monsters don’t take showers!”
    When he brushes his teeth, she says,

    When he combs his hair, she says,
    “Mannyyy! Monsters don’t comb their hair!”
    Mom and Dad are worried about Manny.
    Perhaps it is time for Granny to leave.
    Manny has a different idea. Perhaps
    Granny pretends to be dirty. Maybe she is
    very clean!

    Hello! My name is Achik. I live with my
    mom, dad and little sister in Taracoa. It’s a
    small village in the Amazon rainforest.
    Every morning I wake up at five
    o’clock. First, I drink tea made from hot
    water and guayusa leaves.
    Next, I have breakfast. I eat rice, fish
    and a banana. Breakfast is the biggest
    meal of the day!
